BADGER'S BLUFF - HOLIDAY COTTAGES, LEINTWARDINE, HEREFORDSHIRE
England, United Kingdom

TBadger's Bluff - Of course we've got badgers!he village of Leintwardine is on a crossing of the River Teme and the Clun, in the borderland between England and Wales known as the Marches. There has been a settlement here since Roman times. The remains of castles and hill forts, and nearby defensive dyke built by King Offa of Mercia to protect England from the Welsh, are reminders of trouble past.

The stone arched bridge across the river can be seen from the village green. The green was the site of a May Fair not long ago and is where Morris dancers entertain on some public holidays. The two inns close by offer hospitality at all times, The Lion Hotel produces excellent food.

Wonderful WildlifeLeintwardine has sufficient shopping facilities without travelling into the town, with a butcher, grocer, post office / newsagent and garage. The Lion Hotel is at the bottom of High Street and turning left along the riverside into Rosemary Lane there is an excellent fish and chip with tea room. The Sun Inn is found here also. The church of St. Mary Magdalene holds service for both Church of England and Roman Catholic. Opposite the church is the Methodist Chapel. The doctors surgery times can be found on the information sheet in each cottage.

The medieval town of Ludlow with its castle and many interesting ancient buildings, is eight miles away. Knighton, a small market town, on the Welsh side of the border, also eight miles away, and has a centre for those who wish to walk Offas Dyke. Shrewsbury and Hereford are less than an hours drive away. Within the area are castles, hill forts, an abundance unspoilt black and white timber framed houses in pretty villages, National Trust properties and both indoor and outdoor museums.

Visitors to Leintwardine can be sure of warm welcome at any time of the year and interesting stay for discerning traveller.
